Rossgale was tho pacemaker for a considerable part of the journey and led over the first hurdle from Paul T and Reonui. At the mile Swahilli had taken second place. Going out of tho straight the second time round Rossgale was eight lengths ahead of Swahilli, Paul T, Reonui and Mosstrooper, A mile from home the gap was increased to 12 lengths, but nearing the top (f the hill Rossgale was passed by Swahilli, while Polygonum moved into a good position but fell three furlongs from home. Mosstrooper, coming steadily along, overhauled the tiring Swahilli, who at the last jump was headed by Darnley and Kentle, who under the whip, secured second and third places. Reonui was fourth. Mosstrooper won by three lengths, with four lengths between second and third Time. 6min 12Jscc. Mosstrooper was warmly acclaimed on returning to scale. He has now won this event twice; also the Australian Steeples and two Grand Nationals. He is considered the best jumper seen in Australia and tops the stake winnings over hurdles.
