MOTORISTS’ AMALGAMATION
FOUR ASSOCIATIONS CONFER. BASIS OF SCHEME LAID DOWN. For some time automobile associations in the North Island, particularly the minor ones, have “been agitating for a scheme, of co-operation which would ereat an island service organisation. On Friday, at a meeting convened in Wanganui, the first step towards fruition of the scheme was taken when the four associations on the west coast adopted a tentative basis on which to work and made Wanganui headquarters of a proposed district. The following associations were represented: Manawatu (Messrs. Mackie ard Edmonds), South Taranaki (W. O’Callaghan), Taranaki (Messrs. F. H. Blundell and Vai Duff), Wanganui (Messrs. D. McFarlane, J. Aylmer, S. G. Whittai, E. A. Marchant and the secretary, Mr. F. J. Hill). The meeting was the outcome of the efforts of the Wanganui association to initiate, a service t-, replace the present system under which each association retained its own service officer who worked independently of others. It was felt that by a scheme .of amalgamation a much more effective method of coping with the wants of motorists on the road would be evolved. After a round table discussion at the meeting, which brought forth many suggestions the following resolution, which is to come before the Taranaki association for-confirmation, was carried:— That this meeting of delegates representing Manawatu, Wanganui, South Taranaki and. Taranaki,, approves of a scheme of co-operation, between their respective associations in the matter of service to members, and that the following proposals be adopted as the basis of ' such scheme, subject' to' the confirmation of their respective associations. (1) Each of the four associations represented will employ its own service officer; (2) the services of such service officers will bo available to any one of the. four associations on special days in their respective districts. For the purpose of administration of the scheme the office of the Wanganui Automobile Association be considered the headquarters. Each of the four associations will as soon as possible forward to headquarters a list of “special” days in their .respective districts. Each of the four associations to submit designs of its road direction and hotel signs. A uniform to be agreed upon between the four associations. Road reports to be issued from headquarters prior to Easter and Christmas. Ono of the benefits the scheme is expected to have is to increase the watchfulness of service' officers on days on which public gatherings arc held, such as race meetings and shows. If the Wanganui races were on the service officers of the combined district would be in attendance—the Wanganui man on duty in the city, And the Taranaki man 'on the main north road and the Manawat man on tho south. It is not intended to lose the distinguishing marks of the respective associations on road signs and so forth, but to adont .uniform probably b(!ar|ijg monograms ■to coincide with the name of the asso.jeiatiaiLiilb ilityi-ifofb’d ei’dc'icdi-bi
