TARANAKI SCHOLARSHIPS
PROFESSOR HUNTER’S REPLY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellignton, July 17. Replying to a telegraphed report of criticisms by the Taranaki Education Board, Professor Hunter, Victoria University College, describes his attitude concerning Taranaki education and the Senate deputation which waited on the Minister of Education (the‘Hon. H. Atmore) concerning the Opaku reserves. • Professor Hunter states that the notes made by the stenographer .will show. that no reflection was cast on educational training given in Taranaki. This subject was not referred to by the deputation. The Minister was given certain facts concerning the positions of the holders of Taranaki scholarships on the credit- list of the University entrance scholarship, namely, that the three highest positions were first, ninth and tenth. The three lowest positions were 60th, 77th and 83rd. The average position was about 40th place in the credit list, which includes 30 candidates, who obtained University junior or University national scholarships.
