CHILDREN’S ORGAN RECITALS
DISCONTINUANCE SUGGESTED
By Telegraiih.—Presa Association. Auckland, July 16.
A request that organ recitals for school children should be discontinued was made by the Auckland Headmasters.’ Association'in a letter received by the Auckland Education Board. The reasons given by tlie association were: First, that the need felt when the recitals were first inaugurated had now been lessened by the gramophone and wirelesg: second, that in, the outer districts some parents could not afford to send their children; third, that many did not, or could not, attend, and there was an interruption of school work; ■fourth, that there was danger in bringing so many children into the city.. ' Mr. King said that- for the gramophone and wireless to take'the place of organ recitals was the very tl ng musical people were trying to prevent. .He thought the organ recitals made an impression on the children which could never be made by mechanical means. It was decided to inform the Primary School Committees’ Association before taking any action in the matter.
