TARANAKI ALPINE CLUB

DAWSON FALLS WEEK-END. FUTURE' TRIPS ARRANGED. A meeting of 'the executive of the Taranaki Alpine Club was held last evening, Mr. L. Lovell presiding. A letter was received from the Mt. Egm out Alpine Club thanking the Taranaki Club for the courtesy and hospitality extended on- the occasion of the trip to North Egmont. An invitation wag extended to members of the Taranaki Club to join in a week-end trip to Dawson Falls on Jline 14 and 15. A dance and social evening would be held, on the Saturday evening and on Sunday a trip would be made to the ski. track or Fantham’s Peak. The party woiilir 'bc r 'aceommbdated in the cottage and thoso making the trip should take their own blankets -and eating utensils. Food would ; be arranged for by the leaildr- of the party. •It wfts decided to circularise 'members asking that those proposing to make the trip notify Mr. Grbombridge before Wednesday. With reference to the proposed hut on Humphries Castle and as a result of the motion passed by the north committee of the Egmont National Park Board asking that the club provide-a report on the proposal, a sub-commit-tee consisting of Messrs. C. Deem, K. Tomlins and Groombridge was appointed to go into. the mater. Following that, the sub-committee will confer with the hoard.

Mr.' Groombridge raised the question of holding social evenings in New. Plymouth, Several members had mentioned the matter to him, and it seemed a good scheme to bring members of the club together under different and less hurried occasions than a day’s outing or a week-end trip. The evenings could bo handled by a separate committee. Too many functions could not be held as club : members had other matters to occupy their spare time. It was proposed that the. executive hold one such evening and that a committee to carry on he elected that night. The initial evening will be held on July 9. Twenty-two new. members were elected, bringing the total membership to over 140.

The constitution and rules of the club have been published in booklet form and a supply of the club badges is in the hands of the secretary. The badge is a round red enamel one with an ice axe in the middle. Future trips arranged were: June 29, inspection of Sash' and Door mill under leadership of Mr. R. W. Larsen; July 20, Stratford side and house, leader Mr. C. Deem; August 2 and 3, sociaT evening at North Egmont and ski trip to northern slopes, leader Mr. K. Tomlins; August 24, Bells Falls winter trip, leader Mr. T. Bellringer.
