OATS AND CHAFF FIRM
POTATO VALUES UNCHANGED. MARKET FOR ONIONS WEAKER. t By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The oats market continues very firm and A Gartons were sold at Bluff to-day at 3s. lid. A’s for spread delivery are quoted at 4s. 3d. f.0.b., s.i. There are not many B’s offering, ,and the quotation for them is 3s. 10d., f.0.b., s.i ; , for prompt delivery. Chaff prices remain very firm, with the demand fair. The quotation for prompt is £7 a ton, f.0.b., s.i., equivalent to .£5 10s. on trucks. Chaff for June delivery has been bought at £7 55., and as high as £7 10s., f.0.b., s.i., has been paid for July-August-September delivery. # Most of the “free” wheat is now held by merchants. There is a little business being done in next season’s wheat at ss. 6s. for Tuscan, ss. Bd. for Hunters and to ss. Hd. for Pearl. Fowlwheat is firm at 4s. lid. to 6s. f.0.b., s.i. The potato market as far as the farmet is concerned, has recorded no change, and the quotation is still £3 15s. a ton on trucks. Locally there has been a slight speculative firming between merchants amounting to ss. a ton. Auckland reports an overstocked market, and supplies are hard to sell ex the wharf at £6 to £6 2s". Gd. a ton. The Katoa on Monday took a shipment- of 2900 sacks from Lyttelton, and the Wingatui is expected to take between 5000 and 6000 sacks next Monday or Tuesday. There hag been a renewed demand for Dakotas this week from Wellington, and they have been sold at £4 12s. 6d. for prompt, £4 15s. to £4 17s. 6d. for Jifne and £5 ss. for. July. The forward quotation for Whites is £4 10s. to £4 15s. for June, £5 ss. for July and £5 12s. 6d. for July-August-September. The onion market is a little weaker, and the price to farmers varies from £3 to £3 ss. It is reported that both Wellington and Auckland are purchasing from Australia.
