SERVICES TO LABOUR PARTY
LATE MR. H. BOWEN HONOURED.
Noted for. his services to the New Plymouth branch of the Labour .Party, the late Mr. Henry Bowen was honoured at an evening held in the Workers’ Social Hall on Thursday evening. Mr. W. G. Simpson unveiled a framed enlarged photograph of Mr. Bowen. A native of New South Wales, Mr. Bowen came to New Zealand about 20 years ago. He was keenly interested in the Labour movement. He died in April, 1930. Mr. Bowen was ,one of the- best men produced by the Labour movement, either in New Zealand or elsewhere, said Mr. Simpson. He referred to Mr. Bowen as a man of varying emotions, and with an intense love for his fellow-men. The speaker applied to their late friend the words “This is a man who put the movement first.” Letters wore read from Mr. W. A. Sheat and from the leader of the Labour Party, Mr. H. E. Holland, M.P., expressing their regret at not being able to attend and paying a tribute to Mr. Bowen’s good qualities. After the unveiling, musical items were given by Messrs. P. Fredric, W.
