. JUDGMENT IN CIVIL CLAIMS.' Judgment by default was given by Mr. R; W. Tate, S-M-, at Waitara- yesterday in the following undefended civil cases: G. H. Fletcher v. J. Edwin, £2O 8s 6d (costs £4 7s 6d); R. B. M. Fitzgerald v. James Marsh, £27 16s 8d (£4 12s 6d); James Goodwin v. Roy Logan Barnes, £6 Is (30s 6d); F. H. Ogier v. Wiki'Kapo, £2 4s 3d (33s Gd); Charles King v. Con O’Sullivan, £7 9s (32s 6d); D. EL Purdie v. R. Bezzant. 15s 3d (costs 8s). At the suit of E. Cawthray, A. K. McClutchie was ordered unler a judgment summons to nay £4 14s 7d forthwith, in default tour days’ imprisonment. - ' MOTORIST STRIKES CADETS. ■ Charged with driving a motor-car along Queen Street on April 15 in a manner dangerous to the public, Colin James Mitchell was fined £2, with costs 19s. Senior-Sergeant McCrorie slated that the defendant drove along the street on the wrong side at 7.50 p.m, and ran into the back of a column of cadets, knocking down two trainees and Lieutenant Kempeell. Fortunately the accident was attended by no serious consequences, the three ' victims escaping with bruises. . ? . : "" The defendant pleaded guilty. “0n account of the uniforms being the same colour as the road I did not see the cadets until I had struck them,” he explained, “I was travelling at a speed of not more than 15 miles per hour. However, as the defendant has not put up a strenuous defence but came along to explain the matter and plead guilty f will not cancel his license, but inflict a fine.” Edward Vivian Stokes was fined £1 (costs IDts) for driving a car along the Main North Road, not being the holder of a driver’s license. For driving a car along Richmond Street at greater speed than 20 miles per hour Jacob Kaingaru was fined £2, with costs amounting to £2 Gs.
