AUSTRALIA PLAYS ESSEX
TOURISTS 06 FOR. TWO WICKETS. WOODFULL AND McCABE O.UT. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright Rec. 1.20 a.ro. . London, May 7. Rain threatened when the Australians commenced their match against Essex at Leyton to-day. The outfield was slow and the covering of the wicket had not prevented it being soaked, but the absence of sunshine outruled the possibility of a difficult pitch. The Australians have made 66 runs for the loss of two wickets. Australia won the toss, and Woodfull began with memories of his previous Essex match wherein he scored a double century. Nichols is regarded as England's second fastest and best-bowler. He bowled with fine pace and should have secured Wopdfull’s wicket in his second oyer, but the catch was dropped in the slips. The first ball of Palmer's second over beat Woodfull. The scores are:— AUSTRALIA. First Innings.
