EFFICIENCY IN TRAINING
C COMPANY EXAMINATION. “As I have the Wanganui Company to judge to-morrow (Thursday) night I cannot commit myself 'by stating anything further than that the Taranaki Regiment’s C Company of the Ist Cadet Battalion certainly deserves considerable credit, and it is evident that they haye put a lot of time and ienthiisiasm into their preparation,” eaid ’ Lieuti-ColonCl I. T. Standish, C.M.G., D. 5.0., N.Z.S.C., who conducted the elimination test of the company for the Cainpbell Statuette. .
Smart, keen and well-trained, C Company provided a fine spectacle in mass and section infiintry and musketry drill, culminating with an exhibition bf physical training before Lieut.-Colonel Standish, chief staff officer of the Central Command, and Captain F. L. Hunt, N.Z.S.C., musketry staff officer of the Central Command, at the Agricultural Hall last night. The occasion was a momentous one for C. Company, and upon the dieplay given rest their chances of winning the coveted Campbell Statuette and the Canadian Cup. A large gallery of spectators watched the display and was favourably impressed. C. Company is the selected Taranaki company and this elimination test under the supervision of the Central Command examination board will decide whether they are worthy of representing the Central Command against the Northern (Auckland) and Southern (South Island) Commands;
To-night the inspection board will view the display of the A Company of the 2nd Cadet Battalion of the W.W.C. -Regiment at Wanganui.’ The Wanganui unit has'twice won this trophy, and in addition hblds the Cariadian Cup, which is given for the best night-parading in the Central Command. The splendid showing made last night reflects great credit upon the company. Usually chosen units are specially trained for a period extending to 12 months, but C. Company was informed only at the beginning of last month that it would represent Taranaki, and only by the enthusiasm of the members was such a high standard attained. The Wanganui rivals have been set a high standard to excel. The best company is selected on allround general efficiency, _ points being awarded as follows: —Fall-in 25 points, steadiness on parade 25, cleanliness 50, infantry drill 100, musketry 200, physical training 100, attendance 100. With untiring energy Captain G. H. Weir and 2nd Lieuts. S. F. Hartnell and W. Jarvis .have thrown themselves into this task and a number of extra parades and instructions have been given.
