MANAGEMENT OF 2YB

NEED FOR MORE FINANCE. SUGGESTIONS BY THE SOCIETY. A meeting of the North Taranaki Radio Society , was he.’d in New Plymouth last night, when Mr. F. T. Davis presided over an attendance of about 20 members. Apologies, were read from the president, Mr. E. J. L. Payne, and the Rev. R. 8., Gosnell. . \ The chairman explained that as the station had now been in operation about r'® six months, the executive had thought it advisable to call the meeting in order > that* they might hear the’opinions of members, . favourable or otherwise, on ' the general running of the station. From the letters they had. received from; Queensland, New; South Wales and all over the Dominion, it was very evident that the station had a wide range and ■ was very favourably known. He expressed- the gratitude of the - society, for the great amount of work put ju by the exe'ftitive, the programme directors and the artists who had so generously'given their services gratuitously. , He ■, paid a special tribute to Mr. ■ A. B. Macdonald, the musical director. The society was also most fortunate in being able to have the use of the buildings free of . charge, and a vote of thanks’ to Messrs H. Collier and Co. was carried by acclamation. " Mr. Davis explained Some of the difftmlties they were labouring under. Their funds were not large and it took money to run a station, especially for relays. They were installing permanent lines to the Opera' House and Pukekura Park,, and for these two works they had to pay at least £6 per’ annum, but for any other special relay apart from These two points they had to ; pay : £3 2s 6d each time. This would soon eat up their’ funds ‘ and it was very, apparent that if listeners’-in wanted this service they would have to seo ®- that the,; membership was substantially increased. In reply to a suggestion that a radio exhibition might be of assistance, -tho ' ,fi?’ chairman stated that the society could ■ not take the initiative in this matter/ but if • the dealers ’ organised' such an exhibition they would be pleased to v"-/’ give assistance. -■ One speaker suggested' that more -frequent general meetings of members might - tend to create more interest, but it was generally felt that it would ’be better if. they were to pay-visits- to the . studio on broadcasting nights- and bring along a friend or two ans ehdeav- ;' our ,to interest them- in; the’ work :of / the society. ’ At the conclusion of the meeting Mr. . Huggett, assisted by Mr. Binns, gave a ■ ve-ry interesting., explanation and de- Y’; monstration of the working of the - plant. :
