NEW PLYMOUTH SWIMMING
CLUB NIGHT AT THE BATHS. The New Plymouth Amateur Swimming Club held its second club night of the season at the municipal baths last night. In spite of the coldness o£ the water there were a large number of swimmers. Between 80 and 90 members contested the rafes, and it was a pleasure to see such enthusiasm evidenced so early in the season. ' •. v The evening opened with a practice race of 50 yards for juniors, D. Gayton winning from T. Campbell, with K. Rea third. . This was immediately followed : by a junior ladies’ race. of 25 yards, which was won by Miss K. Donald, with Miss B. Pepperill second and Miss Urry third. - • . ' , The senior members of the club then coached the juniors. As it is the object of the club to improve the general standard of swimming, to this end members desiring to be coached should arrange ■ with the club captain, Mr. W.. Penman, who will appoint a competent senior member to teach them. . . Two races were held for seniors, resulting as follow: First race: R. Montgomerie 1, A. Bell 2,. M. Brien 3. Second race: W. H. Mackay 1, M. May 2,' R. Shaw 3. . t General coaching in polo was given by Mr.'S. Bennett, and the club captain gave instruction in diving. The programme for next club night, November 18, will include races, general swimming, polo practice and general coaching in swimming and diving.
