CRUDE OIL FOR AEROPLANES

TEST OF NEW MODEL ENGINE. British Official Wireless. ■■ Rugby, Oct. 3. A new conference to deal with the question of air travel under the auspices of the Air Ministry is taking place at Cardington, near Bedford, this week. Consideration is being given to a new aeroplane engine, which is the invention of a Manchester engineer, Alan Chorlton. The engine burns crude oil from which there is no danger of explosion such as may come from the use of petrol engines, whilst the fuel is much less in price than petrol and the consumption by the engine is 25 per cent, less than that of the petrol engine. The engine has already 'been tested in the hangar.
