SUCCESSFUL SALE OF WORK

FUNCTION IN FITZROY PARISH. The annual sale of work organised by the Ladies’ Guild of Holy Trinity Church, Fitzroy, was concluded yesterday afternoon when there was a good attendance and brisk business. The various stalls were almost completely sold out and the splendid sum of nearly £lOO was the result of the two days’ effort. To this amount has to be added £lB 10s from a previous function held during the winter. ■The following were the winners of competitions: Plum cake (71b 6oz), donated- by Mrs. Saunders, w 7 on by Mrs. M. Campbell (71b 61oz); iced cake, donated by Mrs. Arden (length of string Iyd 18fin), won by Mrs. Lee (Iyd 18in); a linen cloth, donated by Mr. E. L. Thorpe (peas in bottle 530), was won by Mrs. E. Griffiths (537); an iced cake was won by Mrs. J. Taylor, Chilman St., No. 20. A raffia tray (peas in bottle 606) was won by Mrs. Lloyd Jones (600), Fancy table cover (peas in bottle 606) was won by Miss B. Allen (650). At the conclusion of the sale Canon Gillespie called upon Mrs. Waterston to make a presentation to Mrs. G. Halliday, a member who is leaving for the South Island. In presenting her with a beautiful handbag Mrs. Waterston spoke of the good work done by Mrs. Halliday for the guild. She also presented to Mr. Halliday a Sheaffer pencil and said how much the guild would miss them both at the sales of work. The guild wished them all happiness in their new home. In thanking the guild Mr. Halliday said he had always been glad to help all he could, and had derived a good deal of pleasure from it.
