CHARRED BODY DISCOVERED
TRAGIC DEATH OF A WOMAN.
By Telegraph.—Press Association.
Auckland, Sept. 2.
The charred body of Mrs. Annie Bishop, widow of a constable who recently died, was found on a vacant section near her home at Birkenhead this morning with an empty kerosene bottle and a box- of matches nearby.
From the appearance of the ground where the body was found it seemed that the woman had made a heap of pine needles saturated with kerosene and fired it with a match. She had been in ill health since the death of her husband a year ago.
