CANTERBURY RETAINS TITLE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Despite the fact that the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union has allotted the New Zealand road cycling champion; ship to -the Taranaki centre (round-the-mountain race) this year the Canterbury centre of the union has decided to retain the designation of championship in the title of the Timaru-Christchurch road race to bo held on October 5. This decision was arrived at after discussion at a meeting of the centre this evening. After the motion had been carried Mr. Colley, a member of the centre, remarked: “The executive can take whatever steps it likes afterwards.”
