FRENCH STRIKE AT REDS
EXTENSIVE RAIDS IN PARIS NEWSPAPER MEN ARRESTED IMPORTANT PAPERS SEIZED By Telegraph—Press Assn,—Copyright. ’ Baris,. July 18. The police extensively raided Communists’ haunts overnight, including the office of tho newspaper Humanite. A member of its staff, was arrested .for being allegedly in possession of military documents. Later the managing printer was arrested. The police carried off a mass of documents. The raids were made for the purpose of checking the growth of a strong Communist nerve centre. The Times’ Paris correspondent states that reports from Communists serving in the French Army were among the documents seized when 50 police raided the offices of tho Humanito, which is the official organ of the Commune t Party. The police also raided the headquarters of Communist Youths, when several were arrested.
L’Humanite is advocating at length the holding of an anti-militarist demonstration on August 1, the anniversary of the outbreak of the war. The raid is said to have revealed the existence of complete jftans for this purpose. Other documents contained reports of naval and military armaments, giving evidence of tho existence of an elaborate system of espionage.
