FALSE PRETENCES CHARGE

YOUNG MAN" REMANDED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, July 13. John Tabor, principal of the business of Tabor and Co., formerly of Dilworth Buildings, is wanted in Auckland by the police before they proceed with a charge of false pretences brought against Arthur Strange, a young man who was associated with Tabor. Warrants were issued for tho arrest of Tabor and Strange some time ago on charges of false pretences. Strange was arrested at Thames on a charge of obtaining £156 from Arthur Frederick Rowe by falsely representing that he had a sound, wellestablished publishing company in Auckland, and that ho was sole agent for certain publications, amongst which was tlio "1930 Catholic Review,” and that he had authority of the head of the Catholic Church ’to have the same distributed in all churches in New Zealand. This morning Mr. A. IT. Johnstone appeared for Strange. . . ... Chief-Detect!vo Hammond said Tabor, whom lie described as’ the “principal m the business,” had been arrested in Melbourne but had been committed for trial on other charges to appear at Melbourne sessions on July 15. “We have not heard what happened, a'nd we do not want to proceed with the charge against Strange until we get Tabor back, here,” said Mr. Hammond. “Of course, we could proceed without Tabor, but I think it will be in the interests ‘of Strange if we wait for a while.”

Mr. Johnstone reminded Mr. Hunt, S.M., that his client had now been remanded on a number of occasions previously. The police , said they would proceed with the charge ,to-day. He was not anxious that Strange should have to miss the next sessions of the Supreme Court and wait another three months.

Mr. Hunt remanded Strange to appear again on July” 25, when his case will be heard. Bail was allowed as before.
