On Thursday evening one of the most important events for some of our local residents -took place in the event of an Ingleside, which was held in the town hall. . ..There was a very good attendance of local people, while a-number of car loads arrived from New Plymouth and other places. Soon after 8 o’clock the hall was well filled, and Chieftain’ Mac Diarmid ojjened the evening with a short address, in which he asked those present, to respect certain rules with regard, to dances. Tlie gentlemen then took their partners for the Grand March, which was led by four pipers, Pipe-Major Kirkland and Pipers McDonald, Black and Goeble. Soon the march broke into a waltz, still being, played by the pipers. The next dance was the Circassian Circle, which attracted many of the older folk. Mr. F. Baird delighted those present with two songs, “McGregor’s Gathering and “Annie Laurie,” for which Mr. Fredric played the accompaniments and was later recalled for two more items. During the evening a sword dance was given by Miss Jean Cursons and M. Anderson. Mr. Cleland gave a delightful vocal effort and Miss Myra Abram exquisitely danced two variations of the Sailor’s Hornpipe. At supper-time the haggis was piped in by Chieftain Mae Diarmid, and the supper was brought into the body of the hall on tables. The ladies responsible for the supper were Mcsdames Nasmith, Thomson, Masin, Jones, Corkill, Erskine, Holland and Misses Nolan and Nasmith. Messrs. A. M. McDiarmid, J. B. Erskine and J. Corkill made efficient M.’sC.
