GENERAL AND PERSONAL. The fact that 98 lines in various quarters of the board’s are. had been broken as a result of the recent gale, particularly an June 19, 20 and 29, was stated by Mr. B. H. Goldsmith at yesterday's meeting of the Taranaki Power Board. In making this announcement, Mr. Goldsmith explained that several lines were broken together at certain points through trees crashing into the wires. Thus breaks occurred at only 42 points, but only one interruption, that of a broken insulator, was caused by the earthquake. "I have a great ’deal of sympathy with linesmen these cold wintry nights,” said Mr. N, 11. Moss.
“It has to bo realised that this board is a business concern and I am satisfied that no business can succeed to-day unless it goes in for a certain amount of advertisiug,” said Mr. H. J. Marchant in urging the Taranaki Power Board to allocate a reasonable amount for expenditure in advertising the benefits of electricity and the board's appliances, lhe chairman said the board was alieacij committed to an expenditure connected with the issue of a booklet. He thoioughly agreed with Mr. Marchants iemarks. Mr. R. J. Knuckey suggested the holding of cooking demonstrations at centres within the boards aiea, w n tMr. N. H.
