BOYS’ QUARTETTES PRAISED. The Elthain competitions were continued yesterday afternoon and evening, and again attracted large, appreciative audiences. Further results in the various sections ! are:—• j FOLK DANCING. Miss Cocker and Miss Massey, equal 1 Mr. F. Silver 3 The judge said the competitors in this section were very even and he was pleased with all of them. VIOLIN SOLO. Own selection. (2 entries). Mr. R. Downey 1 Mr. G. Chamberlain 2 BALLAD. Men; own selection. (3 entries.) Mr. F. Silver 1 Mr. H. Reynolds 2 INSTRUMENTAL QUARTETTE. Own selection. (2 entries.) St. Mary’s (Hawera) Boys’Club No. 1 1 St. Mary’s (Hawera) Boys’Club No. 22 This class was very pleasing from the ' point of view of the audience and it was a sheer delight to see four boys attain- : ing so great a degree of efficiency in the ; playing of musical instruments. In the opinion of th. judge both quartettes were surprisingly good and were much better than he anticipated. If they were 1 a sample of the Hawera boys’ band it ; must be outstanding. (2 entries.) Stratford and Eltham, equal 1 The judge found great difficulty in trying to separate the competitors so he awarded them equal first.
