IN PLAIN AND FANCY DRESS

NEW PLYMOUTH TRAMWAY BALL. So the soothing strains of the waltz and the exciting throb of jazz a crowd of fancifully and soberly costumed dancers spent a merry evening at the New Plymouth Tramways ball in the Agricultural Hall last night. Plain and fancy dress was the order of die evening-and many availed themselves of the opportunity to regain the carnival spirit even though the grey light of dawn should bring disillusionment. The hall was decorated' gaily with streamers and squares of red and yellow, the tramway colours, by the men's committee consisting of Alessrs I'oote, lever, Royston, Cunningham and Grounds, assisted by almost the whole tramway force. The supper decorations were in the same shades and with the supper were in the hands of Alcsdames Florence, Huggard, Grounds, Osborne, Royston, Sykes, Aloore, Riley, Abraham, Whiting, Fever, Edwards, Giddy, Cunningham, P. Wilmhurst, Taylor, Aliss Abraham and others.

The following prizes for fancy dress were awarded: —Ladies: Aliss Palmer (Eastern Lady), Miss Johnston (Cap and Bells), Aliss Bocock and Aliss Harrison (Bride and Bridegroom). Poster: Aliss George (White Star Line), Miss Looney (Colman’s Alustard), Aliss Giddy (Cooper's Seeds). Original: Aliss Carr(Buttons), Miss Cole (Black and White Whisky), Miss Roberts (Black Cat). Specials: Aliss Linn (Colman’s Mustard), Aliss Boyle (Balloon Lady), Aliss Ritchie (Hindu). Men: Aliss Goldsworthy (Toy Soldier), Airs. Grounds (Tram Conductor), Aliss Harrison (Bridegroom). F Messrs. Foote, Grounds and Pentecost were Al’s.C., while McNeill's dance band, provided the music.
