WAITARA NEWS
PERSONAL AND GENERAL. Mr. James Sarten was buried at the Tikorangi cemetery on Tuesday afternoon. The service at the graveside was conducted by Canon Gavin, and the pallbearers were Messrs. J. Armstrong, W. Reeves, P. Scrimgeour, F. Mathews, and J. Whitehead. There was a lengthy cortege and an abundance of floral tributes, included in which ware wreaths from the Clifton Rowing Club and Waitara Cricket Club. At the management committee meeting of the Clifton Football Club on Tuesday evening a circular was read from Mr. Christie, acting on behalf of the South Taranaki clubs who are desirous of altering the management and control of Rugby football in Taranaki. The letter stated that a conference would be held next Monday at Inglewood of all clubs to discuss the proposal. Messrs. Stimpson and E. Tate were appointed to represent the Clifton Club. A challenge, for the Black and White Cup was received from the Lepperton Club. It was thought doubtful whether a team could be raised to meet Lepperton. The matter was left in the selector’s hands.
