TARANAKI ASSOCIATION MEETS.

A meeting of the Taranaki Football Association was held at Stratford last night when Mr. Tom Smith presided. Neither New Plymouth nor Ha wera delegates attended

Reporting on the Taranaki-Wanga-nui match, wh;ch Wanganui won by lour goals to one, the secretary (Air. G. Littlejohn) said they had been beaten by a better team but had been splendidly entertained. The Taranaki players had all justified their selection. The transport had hardly been satisfactory and in future better arrangements might be made. It had been suggested that in the future the match, whether played at Wanganui or in Taranaki, should take place on a Saturday to avoid any rush. Owing to no official referee having been present at the Stratford v. Egmont United match/ he controlled the game, wrote Mr E. H. Linnell. Towards the end of the match he had found it necessary to order off Lawrence (United), for disputing his decisions and Lawrence, said Mr. Linnell, dared the latter to warn him off.

In addition to his written report Mr. Linnell, who was at the' meeting, stated that it was not a case meriting severe punishment.

Lawrence denied that he spoke on this particular* occasion although admitting that he questioned the referee's decisions during the former part of the game. When he was ordered off it was not he who spoke, but another player. Lawrence was cautioned, the chairman pointing out that appealing was one thing but continued questioning of a referee’s rulings was an entirely different matter,

KING'S THEATRE, STRATFORD. “FOUR SONS.” “Tour Sons” is the feature picture at the King’s theatre to-day and to-mor-row. This is a Fox picture, directed by John Ford, who made the successful “Mother Machree” and “The Iron Horse.” Ths large cast includes Margaret Mann, the lovely old lady whose portrayal of the mother role in this picture has been acclaimed throughout the country as one of the most penetrating and human characterisations ever seen upon the screen. It is a characterisation rich in sympathy and sentiment. Around this character, “Grandma Bernie,” revolves the story of the four sons, three of whom march off to fight for the motherland —many of the scenes take place in Bavaria —while the fourth son, in America, sails to fight for the stars and stripes. The powerful conflict, the touching pathos, the swift succession of dramatic highlights—all are combined with telling effect. Others in the cast are Janies Hall, Charles Morton, George Meeker, Francis X. Bushman, jnr., Earle Foxe and Juno Collyer.
