AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION

MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE. Seventy-five new members were elected by the committee of the Taranaki Automobile Association at its monthly meeting. Present were Messrs. F. H. Blundell (chairman), W. R. Johns, E. J. Judd, B. Sturm, G. Gibson, W. Guild and V. Duff (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Dr. G. P. Adamson and Messrs. W. C. Weston and R. J. Pentecost.

The Clifton County Council wrote that it had no objection to the formation of a stock route in the county parallel to the main highway if the Main Highways Board would pay for the work.

It was decided to write to the Main Highways Board pointing out the benefits that motorists and stoek drivers in general would enjoy if stock was diverted to another route.

It was decided to support proposals from the Auckland Automobile Association that blind people should be allowed to cross streets in safety when holding up one hand, and that warning devices should be installed at dangerous level crossings' where elimination is not immediately possible. The following applications for signposts w r ere referred to the sign-posts committee: One on Komene Road ou Main Coast Road; near Hempton hall, Okato; one directing to swimming pool and camping site. The question of altering the position of the sign directing motorists to turn into Okato was also referred to the committee.

The secretary was instructed to ■write to the A. and P. Society expressing dissatisfaction at the position allotted the association’s display at the recent winter show.

It was decided to write the New Plymouth Borough Council expressing satisfaction at their decision to place an officer at the intersection of Devon and Liardet streets on busy days as suggested by the association two years ago. It w-as decided to ask the Fitzroy Seaside Park Society to remove the old sign at the corner of Beach and Devon streets as a new notice had now been put up.
