The Stratford Chamber of Commerce executive council met last night, Mr. W. MacDonald presiding. Mr. P. Thomson wrote suggesting that representations be made to the Strutford postmaster (Mr. J. S. Fletcher; with a view to having the time for the closing of mail for New Plymouth daily, and for Auckland on Tuesdays and Fridays, by the mid-day mail train, l». made later. —Deferred to the next meeting. “To look after the interests of aviation in Taranaki,” wrote the Mayor of New Plymouth (Mr. H. V. S. Griffiths), “it had been decided to set up a committee consisting of two delegates from every local body and chamber of commerce in North Taranaki.” —Messrs. J, B. Richards and H. F. Fleming were elected to represent the chamber. Mr. P. Thomson advised tlie chamber that extra accommodation was to be made at the Savings Bank section of the post office in New Plymouth. He sug gested that a further effort be made to have a set of books opened by the Stratford post office to enable the people of the district to withdraw their deposits without the necessity of two attendances. Stratford was the centre of a large district and such a service on the part of the post office would be of benefit to a very large number of depositors. The question was referred to the president to take up with the PostmasterGeneral through Mr. W. J. Polson. M.P. Mr. W. Hoskin, who was asked at the previous meeting to report upon the advisability of introducing into New Zealand similar legislation to the Britis i Landlord and Tenant Act, reported lengthily on the question before suggesting that Mr. W. J. Polson, M.P., should be asked to interest himself in the subject. He moved: “That the chamber advises the associated chambers that it is in favour of the Government bringing down a measure similar to the British Act.”—Discussion was deferred until the next meeting.
