SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) ■The monthly meeting of the Inglewood school committee was held on Monday evening. Present: Messrs. Roberts (chairman), Sutton, Feave-r, Braybrooke and Mulholland. Apologies were received from Messrs. Armstrong I and Parfitt. The stationmaster wrote that Februnry 2 appeared to be a suitable date foi the school picnic to Pioneer Road and tli.it had been pencilled in by the Railway Department. The Stratford Borough Council forwarded a circular callling attention to the advantages ofelocal I parks for school picnics. Messrs. N. R. McKenzie, W. A. Balj hintyne and T. J. Grillin, the inspectors, forwarded the following report on their Ireeimt visit:—Generally speaking, this |>! is in a very good .stale of clli-rii-.-n--,. Throughout the school a very good tone prevails. The rooms are eit-au and tidy and the grounds ami fences are in a very satisfactory condition. Ample provision is made for the training of probationers in the art of school management'. The committee considered this a vorj i satisfactory report.
Mr. A. Henderson (headmaster) reported that the roll totalled 292, with an average attendance for the past fortnight of 216. On Monday there were 64 absent from the infant room, chiefly on account of chicken pox and measles. Dr. Meciedy, medical health officer, visited the school on Monday and examined the pupils of stand .rds If. and VI. ‘Considerable discussion took place on the proposed purchase of a vacuum cleaner. The chairman thought th,lit a further demonstration should be arranged and suggested that they should ask for tire loan of the machine for a week. GENERAL ITEMS. During the week-end the Waitara golf team played a return -match with Inglewood. Waitara were victorious in both the morning and afternoon play, winning by nine games to t'vo. On Saturday the in, 1.-vreod school boys secured their second win al cricket by defeating the New Plymouth High School Preparatory by 51 runs. High School could only gather 20 runs, and Inglewood responded with 71. The best scorers for Inglewood were Macl.aggan 27, Evetts 14 and Haselden JO.
