LEVEL CROSSING SMASH
COMMERCIAL TRAVELLER KILLED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Waimate. Last Night. A distressing level-crossing collision occurred on the main road at Stndholme this morning, when the 8.20 train from Waimate to Studholme collided with a car driven by Mr. H. J. Pickering, a commercial traveller representing Ross and Glendining, Dunedin. The car was struck about the driver’s seat and tossed into a hedge. The driver was thrown out and sustained serious injuries. Medical aid with the ambulance arrived from Waimate, and the injured man was conveyed to the Waimate Hospital, wheie he expired later in the morning. Pickering, who was the only occupant of the ear. is believed to have been a resident of Timaru, He leaves a wife and family.
