TRIBUTE'S FROM PRISONERS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Dec. 22. A touching tribute from a most unexpected quarter has reached Mrs. C. E. Matthews, widow of the late Undersecretary of Justice and ControllerGeneral of Prisons. It is an address of sympathy signed by 54 inmates of the Waikato prison and was sent through the chief warder. The signatories offer their sincere and heartfelt sympathy to Mrs. Matthews in the death of her husband, to whom they refer as; “Our revered chief. We have indeed lost a true friend in every sense of the word.” The address proceeds: ‘••He had our •best interests at heart and he did and was doing his best to help his w’eaker felkrw-men. We hope, indeed we know, his life work will not l>e lost.”
