“FAIR AND WARMER.”

THE NELLIE BRAMLEY CO3IPANY. FINAL APPEARANCE TO-NIGHT. Another striking tribute to the popularity of the Nellie Bramley Company was paid on Saturday night, when a capacity house greeted the rise of the. curtain on “Fair and Warmer,” a delightfully humorous play, with which the company scored a triumph on their last visit, and which was repeated by special request on this occasion. The story woven round this threeact comedy has been told before in these columns and needs no- repetition. , The piece abounds with provokingly funny situations throughout, especially the cocktail scene, in which Blanney Wheeler (Nellie Bramley) and Billy Bartlett (Arthur Connell), burning under the indignation that their respective matrimonial partners have left them to spend the evening elsewhere, determine to “go gay” together. Their fall from the heights of virtue to the head-split-ting depths of inebriation, pictured step by step and drink by drink, drew unrestrained laughter time and again, and this reached its climax when the pair were discovered by their respective partners, Laura Bartleet (Sylvia MeNail) and .lack Wheeler (George Hewlett). On these four fell the greater part of the piece, but in such capable hands the task was not a burden, the light, breezy touch being effortlessly sustained. Miss Bramley was especially warmly received On making her first appearance. Minor parts were taken by Beryl Barraclough (as Tessie, the Bartlett’s maid), John Galway (as Philip Evans, friend of Mrs. Bartlett), and Guy Hastings and William McGowan, furniture removers. An efficient orchestra provided pleasing music between the acts.

Miss Bramley and her talented company make their final bow to a New Plymouth audience at the Empire Theatre to-night, when the four-act play, “The Third Degree,” will be presented.
