FRANCE’S WAR DEBT.
ATTITUDE OF AMERICA. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright, Washington, Deo. 18. The reported intention of France to discuss the funding of her debt with Britain has occasioned a prediction at the Treasury that the United States Government, like that of Britain, would claim equal treatment. Treasury officials declared that there was no reason for a militant attitude, since the French representatives had already held a series of conferences on the question with Mr. Mellon, Secretary to the Treasury. Since both loans were made for financing the world war the officials see no reason for preferential treatment to 'Britain.
Altogether the discussions appear to have 'been unfruitful, although the officials are hopeful that the prospects of an all-round settlement have somewhat advanced.
