GOOD PROGRESS MADE. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the New Plymouth branch of the Young Women’s Christian Association was held last night, Mr. C. H. Weston presiding over a large attendance of members and friends. The proceedings were opened by the Rev. 0. Blundell leading the meeting in prayerCommenting on the year's work, Mrs. E. A. Walker (president of the association) said she was very pleased indeed to notice the splendid work done by the young girls. Very appreciative reference was made of the sterling work carried out by the matron of the hostel, Miss B. Roughton, and the staff also wished to place on record the valuable assistance rendered by the advisory board, whose services were not needed nearly so much as in the past, a fact which indicated that everything was running smoothly. Thanks* were also i due to the chairman. Mrs. Ambury, and Misses Saxton and Enid White. ‘ Mrs. I Walker concluded her remarks by expressing the hope that the forthcoming [year would be as successful as the past , one.

i In moving the adoption of th© annual report (already published), the chairman complimented the association on the very successful, year. The balancesheet showed a credit balance of £125, but of this amount it was proposed to write off £95 rs depreciation on the furniture in the hostel, thus leaving a surplus of £3O. The chairman commented on the very beneficial influence that an institution such as the Y.W.C.A. had on a town, and he hoped that its prosperity would continueIn seconding tho motion. Mr. P. J. H. White, as a member of the advisory board, said New Plymouth should be congratulated on having such a successful institute in its midst as the Y.W.C.A. He was very pleased to see that the mortgage on the property had been reduced, and everything pointed to the fact that the action of the advisory board in acquiring the property had been fully justified notwithstanding the stout opposition which had been met with in the early stages. He was very pleased to see Mrs. Howell present. She had, as everyone knew, rendered some very valuable assistance to the advisory board. It was satisfactory to know that the Y.W.C.A. had been able to stand on its own and make such splendid progress during the past year“l hope it will not be long before a Young Men’s Christian Association will h“ formed,” added Mr. White. Tt would have to come, and it should have been established before.

The report and balance-sheet were adopted without discussion. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: President. Mrs. F. A. Walker; vice-presidents, Mesdames O. Blundell. C. IT. Weston, and M. Campbell; hon. secretary. Miss -T. Hayden; hon. treasurer, Mrs. Mowlem. Mesdames Battey, Nisbit .Smith, Kerr and Miss Wilson were elected to the board of dheotors-

A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to tho chairman, Mrs. O. Blundell stating that Mr. Weston always attendee! the meetings and was always ready to give advice. Every lady on the board was indebted to him for his many kindnesses since the institution was established. After the business of the meeting ft number of enjoyable musical items were rendered by several members. Those contributing were: Miss Crozier (recitation). members of the Wai-ata group (charade). Miss Thomas (song), Misses L. Bell and B. Hawkins (duet). An item was also rendered by members of th. Tamahine group. A dainty supper was dispensed by members of the hostel.
