THE SPORTSGROUND.

USE BY CRICKET CLUBS. TERMS FOR THE SEASON. The New Plymouth Sportsground Committee met last night. Present: Messrs. A. L. Humphries (chairman), L. B. Webster, F. J. Hill, J. Clark, O. Cook, F. C. Ferry, A. E. Kretchsmar, J. Garcia and L. Little (hon. secretary). The principal business was the arranging of terms, etc., for the coming season with the North. Taranaki Cricket Association. As the outcome of a discussion arising from a. deputation that waited on the Sportsground Committee at its last meeting, the Cricket Association submitted proposals to the effect that the Sportsground Committee should retain the fees payable by players in club competition matches or inter-club friendly games, viz., Is per head per day, clubs to pay £5 per club for practice wickets, and all gate revenue from club matches to be collected and retained by the Sportsground Committee. In return the Sportsground Committee was to be entirely responsible for the proper laying out, maintenance and marking of turf practice wickets, one representative wicket (for which the Cricket Association would provide the soil) and one match wicket. It was estimated that playing fees would amount to £22, practice wickets should bring at least £l5, and gates last year brought about £2O, a total revenue of £57.

On the motion of Messrs. J. Garcia and F. J. Hill it was resolved to approve of the scheme on the lines submitted by the Cricket Association, and a sub-committee consisting of the chairman, Messrs. F. J. Hill and L. B. Webster was set up to make arrangements.

A statement of accounts was received from the Cricket Association. This showed that the commission on gates “totalled £45 8s 6d and ground rental £l5, a total of £CO 8s fid. Of this amount £25 had been paid, leaving a balance owing of £35 8s 6d- In view of the straightened state of their finances and the loss sustained over the representative matches, the Cricket Association asked whether the committee would be prepared to meet them in the matter.

In view of the circumstances it was resolved to make a donation to the Cricket Association of £l5, being the amount of the ground rental.

The action of the chairman in purchasing a horse was approved.

The chairman, Messrs. F. J. Hill, L. B. Webster and the secretary were appointed a sub-committee to arrange for the erection of a shed for tools and implements.
