A collision between a motor-car and a motor-’bus occurred at the corner of Eliot and Courtenay Streets yesterday. The car was badly damaged, but no one was hurt.

Collecting funds to provide Christmas cheer for the children in the New Plymouth hospital, Mr. H. S. Alpe yesterday walked from UrUti, via Urenui and Waitara, to New Plymouth. Mr. Alpe left Uruti at 12 o’clock, and arrived at New Plymouth at. 7.35 p.m., thus taking 10 minutes off his previous record, which was 6 hours 40 minutes for the 35 miles, Mr. Alpe collected 30s at Uruti, 8b at Upper Uruti Road, another 8s himself while on the road, and 10s from the workmen on the new bridge outside Waitara. Urenui and Waitara are both collecting money to further Mr. Alpe’i plans.

Mr. F. W. Nicholson, manager for New Zealand of the National Mutual Life Association of Australasia, has received the following ca'ble from his head office in Melbourne:—“The 54th annua) general meeting of members was held yesterday. Among the attractions for the holiday season are the Christmastide dances, to bo held on Boxing Night and the night following at the East End pavilion. This year the solution has been provided for them by way of the open-air concert in Pukekura Park. The programme sr* ranged is an excellent one, and include® all the best local vocalists and instrumentalists, so that an enjoyable evening is assured. Besides having the grounds lighted with electric light, the committee has arranged for displays of coloured lights at intervals during the evening, which should give a very beautiful effect to the lake and its surroundings. Extra seating accommodation will be provided, so that patrons can listen to the concert in comfort. The New Plymouth Pipe Band has kindly consented to assist, and will march to the Park from the post office via Devon and Liardftt Streets at 7.15 p.m. on the night of the concert.

Owing t the crowded state of Devon Street on Christmas and New Year’s Eves, it has been the custom in past years to prohibit the use of motor cars in that street after 7 p.m. This year cars will bo allowed in the street, but at a reduced speed of six miles per hour. Motorists should note this fact, and if the privilege is appreciated, a ready compliance with the rule will have a considerable effect Upon the policy ia future years*
