Mies Barr, a former principal of the New Plymouth Girls’ High School, is spending a holiday at Dawson’s Falls.

Mr. R. G. B. Sinclair, an old New Plymouth boy, has passed the final examination for the degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. Miss Lawn, who has ‘been teaching at the Okaiawa school for some time, received a presentation from the pupils yesterday, on the eve of her departure for another part of the province.

Major-General Sir W. Chaytor, General Officer Commanding the New Zealand military forces, will retire early in the New Year, and will leave shortly with Lady Chaytor, on a visit to England.

Mr. J. W. Butler, director of the Wellington Boys’ Institute and a member of the Wellington Hospital Board, is spending Christmas with his daughter, Mrs. Harold Beale, Dorset Avenue, Westown.

Mr. Edward Newing, of Durie Hill, celebrated his 94th birthday yesterday. His years ait lightly upon him, and he regularly takes his daily walk into town, says the Chronicle. All his facilities are remarkably preserved, and Ms conversation is at all times entertaining. Mr. Newing was a settler near Manaia for a number of years.
