AMERICANS AT AUCKLAND. GOOD PERFORMANCES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The American athletes competed at a carnival arranged by the Auckland centre at the domain yesterday. The attendance was 2000. Krogness gave a fine exhibition of hurdling, but he and Merchant suffered injuries to their legs while jumping and expect to be handicapped during the remainder of the tour. The hundred yards New Zealand championship resulted: Kirksey 1, W. 1. Elliot 2, J. Lynch 3. Won in the last three yards by 1% yards, one yard between second and third. Time, 10 2-5 sec. Kirksey won the 100 yards’ handicap in 10 1-5 sec. and the 220 yards in 22 3-5 sec., both from scratch. Krogness won his heat in the 120 hurdles in 16 2-5 sec. from scratch, but in the final J. J. Cribble (six yards) beat him by half a yard. Time, 15 3-5 sec. ’ Merchant won the putting the shot with 43 feet 5% Inches, 44 feet 10% inches, and 45 feet 1% inches, the last shot being the best he has ever done.

Krogness was fourth in the hop, step and jump, doing 42 feet from scratch, G. A. Plummer (scratch) with 46 feet 3 inches, winning.

Merchant (scratch) won the broad jump with 23 feet 3% inches—a New Zealand rebeating the 23 feet 3 inches established by Keddell (Southland) ten years ago. Krsgness (scratch) jumped 21 feet' 4% inches in his first try, but at the second slipped, hurting his ankle.

In exhibition hammer throwing, Merchant threw 145 feet and 157 feet 2 inches.
