A cable message states that. King Alphonso has arrived in London. A cable from London says General Diaz (wiio Jed the Italian Army) received the heartiest welcome in London.

Sub-Inspector Hutton, of the New Plymouth police, is at present off duty on account of sickness.

Mr S. G. Smith, M.P., and Mr W. T. Jennings, M.P., arrived in New Plymouth on Saturday night from Wellington to spend the week-end at home.

Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., who presided at a sitting of the Magistrate's Court at Inglewood on Friday, was welcomed by Mr. H. J. M. Thomson on behalf of the Bar.

Dr. W. A. Chappie, formerly a member of the New Zealand House of Representatives, and more recently a member of the British House of Commons, who reached Auckland from Fiji last week, has no intention of offering himself as a candidate at the general election. It is his intention to contest a seat at the next British election.

New Plymouth men who are arriving by the Paparon, due here next week are Quartermaster S. W. M. Gollis' Rflmn. W. H. L. Coombes and Corporal R. L. Crockett (Omata), Mr. S. Vickers, of Omata, a member of the Taranaki County Council, has been nominated by the Omata and Franldey school committee 3 for the vacancy in the Education Board, caused by the resignation of Mr T. Buchanan.

Second-Lienlenant J. E. Jarvi9 and Private F. J. Aldons, who returned by the lonic, are due to arrive in New Plymouth to-night. Those aboard the Remuera, who also return to-night, are: Captain H. B.
