MAPUA NEWS.

„.. , March 22nd. lo the, residents here it is a thing of perennial interest to watch the constant growth,-.and progress of this township, almost, as good as being in a perpetual picture show. Just now.the chief object of interest is the large cool store being erected alongside the packing shed, which effectively dwarfs its TTiisy neighbour. The latter is now receiving large quantities of apples, and rapidly dealing with them, some old acquaintances of last summer being again over here to assist, as well as others new to Mapua. Wo understand that the packers -are likely to be required until October of this year, which speaks well for the prospects cf the fruit harvest.

The bi-weekly call of the Anchor-Com-pany'sl boat to take away fruit is also another welcome innovation, which, by the way, also gives us a more frequent mail service, a great convenience to all. The new school so recently built for us <on]y about last August) is already full, 29 children and one teacher making the 30 persons for whom air space was^provided. In less than three years the number of scholars has multiplied by six; if it continues to increase at the same ratio we shall have some 80 children to educate by 1922. Our present teacher, Mr Boyes, is taking a great interest in the work of the school, and bids fair to be popular with children and parents alike.

The Rev. W. Berry will be leaving the district in about a month's time, and we understand his successor will Be a Mr Bryan from Otago. Mr Berry will take with him the good wishes of all his friends here, and will be particularly missed by the young people with whom he has been deservedly popular.
