- <Frbm; '^The Golonist,^ March 20th.) Some excitement was caused at the Co-operative; Eruit Company-'s packing shed oh Tuesday , when* a team of horses owned by Mr E. Gadd becamealarmed at a passing vehicle and made off with a. full: load. of. fruit which had just been loaded for market. Mr Gadd,: by almost superhuman efforts}-was able to regain control of his team and prevented what for a- time looked likely to end ia a very serious accident. ,'
Mr Charles Thompson's residence had a very narrow escape from total destruction by fire on Tuesday afternoon. During the temporary absence of the family, smoke was observed issuing in clouds from the roof of the building, and it was not long before an energetic band of willing workers were on the spot. A bucket brigade was hastily organised, and under the capable leadership of Private M. O. Walsh who demonstrated the value of method in dealing -with an emergency, the flames were soon under control, but not until the building and contents had suffered somewhat from fire and water.
