Writing from Franco,' Lance-corporal Paul C. !Nunan, of the Australian Army Medical Corps, gives to his parents in Melbourne interesting information about life at the front, iaend includes a panegyric on the charms of French, girlhood.
"Naturally," lie writes, "we woro most interested on our arrival in the young women <jf the country. We soon found out that they,have a gieat bent: for throwing kisses —in fact*they have . exalted that innocent pastime to"~a"fine art. Happily, some prefer »xo fce&tow rather than throw these tokens of affection. Therefore, some of the lads were hiclsy, and some were envious. ' As a result of the souvenir erase which ; has sprung up,'letters are' constantly arriving for the corps, addressed to Private-'..Monsieur- Jones, Brown, or Robinson.- This/ is the spring time, when 'A young ihan's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love,' so we who have not received these . perfumed favours-,are still hoping. lam satisfied that- Australia has not yet a monopoly of pretty women. What we'particularly notice here are the beautiful complexions"- of tho women and girls, especially in the north. Wliile such complexions are rare in Australia, here you can reckon them in millions. Some of the 'kiddies" here, 'both boys land'girls, aro rosy-cheeked "beyond, description,"
