DRAMATIC RUSSIAN ARREST.
THE EX-MINISTER .FOR ' WAR
The Petrograd correspondent of a 'London paper has obtained some details of the arrest of General'Soukhomlinoff, ex-Minister for War, which (he says) do credit to the energy and. courtesy of the authorities in dealing with the case; and also to the dignified bearing of the accused. He was taken by surprise when- the house where lie lived was suddenly surrounded at eleven o'clock in-the-morning, by police officials, who knocked at the door of the Sat occupied by the general, and said they were instructed to search the place-thoroughly, and then remove him to tho fortress of St. Peter and St. Paul.
"Yon are charged with a heinous crime," said the. senator, upon whom the Emperor has laid the duty of investigating the accusation that the exWar Minister terribly miscalculated the needs of the-army, and neglected to provide it with the munitions necessary for -victory last year, <:and I am fom'--l to place you under restraint." General Soukhomlinoff replied that he would bow to- the authority of tlw law, but expressed surprise that such a measure was considered necessary. He had given no cause, he said, for the authorities to think that he shrank from meeting tho charges. He then put on his full uniform and bade farewell to bis wjfe.
The general was driven io the foitress, and lie there handed his sword to the commandant. He was confined in
tho rooms or.cc occupied by General Stoessel. • ■
