IN THE WAIMEAS.

There was practically no rain in the Waimeas on Friday night, hut on Saturday morning both the Wai-iti and Wai-roa rivers were in high flood, indicating that there had been a heavy fall in the- back country. According to old residents it is an unusual occurrence for both rivers to be flooded at the same time. On Saturday the rivers overflowed their banks, and the main road at Brightwater was submerged. Although the rivers had subsided yesterday, the road between Waimea West and Brightwater was still impassably for foot traffic. The Wai-iti river was at its highest at 2 o'clock yosterday afternoon.

After the big flood some years ago, protective works were put in at the back of Mr Reay's property at Brightwater, and these served a good purpose on Saturday, preventing the Wai-roa river from flooding the low-lying lands between Burse's bank and the township of Briglitwater

There was no church or Sunday school at Bright-water yesterday, owing to the flood.. * «

Heavy floods are repoprted in the Appleby district.

The main road between Hope and Richmond was under water yesterday, and the motor bridge ever the creek near Tebay's store was under water.
