THE ALEXANDRA HOME SITE.

Mr. Harley brought up the question of the site for the Alexandra Home, tfhich would have to be re-erected. He admitted that' the present site was warm and sunny, but it was a long way from the city. It was inconvenient for people who had to visit the inmates, and a long way for the old oeople to come into town. If the home was erected nearer the town the inmates Mould see ncore life. He believed the reason that the home was built away from the town was to keep the inmates away from temptation, but he thought they might as well be dead as placed in such an isolated position. The chairman said that the reason the home was erected away from the town was because some of the old people were continually getting drunk, and were causing trouble in the home. Cr. Macrr.ahon said the chief reason why the "home was erected away from the town was to keep the inmates away from temptation. He thought the public could perhaps provide the inmates with extra comforts.

, Mr. Simpson said that some of the inmates were no doubt old pioneers uho had borne the hardships of the early days, and they should have every comfort in their old age. He would ■ike to see the home nearer the town Mr Hunt did not think it would be advisable to shift the horce. because ■Am present site was warm and sunny.

On Cr. Mercer's motion it was resolved that copies of the resolutions bo forwarded to the Board and to the various contributing bodies. A _vote of thanks to Cr. Everett for '^residing concluded the conference.
