DESERTERS,
Amsterdam, April 16
Two German deserters informed a .Jutch correspondent that they were glad, to escape from the hell on the Verdun front. They witnessed the Termiten fight. According to the German report a French detachment surrendered j bijtresumed their amis and attacked the Germans in the rear, necessitating drastic measures. In reality the French were ciit off and refused to surr6nder. They inflicted terrible losses on the Germans, who had passed on. Eventually the French, finding it impossible to cut a way through, surrendered, whereupon the Germans, after the men were disarmed, commenced a wholesale slaughter. Many of the Ger,'mans were disgusted at the butchery.
