General Petain, the French commander at Verdun, after the action on the Gthjnst., issued an order in which lie said: "This is a- day of glory for our arniß. Our infantry, artillery, engineers and aviators have rivalled each other in heroism, everywhere breaking the Crown Prince's soldiers' furious assaults. Doubtless they will attack again. Therefor© we mtx'st work and AvatcJi to once more achieve the same success. Courage, .•#.© shall beat them!"
