THE COLLINGWOOD STREET CEMETERY.

Mr T. A. H. Field, M.P., wrote enclosing a letter from the Prime Minister re school site in Collingwood street. Mr Massey's letter notified that a notic© had been published in the Gazette changing the purpose of the cemetery reserve in Coliingwood street to a public school cite. The. chairman..said that ,vr. due time a title would be. issued by 'the Hands. Department in favour of the board. The business .so far as the committee, was concerned was finished. The ques-tion'-as-to -what was to become of the. graves had not yot been decided b.v the Minister for Internal Affairs. All the committee desired for the school use at present, was tho land on the Oollingwood street side of the hedge. The Town Clerk, Nelson, wrote enclosing letter received from Mr J. Fo.v, solicitor Ha-wera, asking what it was proposed te do In regard to removing tombstones and fences, and the exhuming of bodies for reinterment' in the ntw cemetery. The chairman said that when they obtained leave from tho Minister for - Internal Affairs, the committee would a«k the Council te give the necessary pints in the new cemetery for the reinterment of the bodies. Mr McConchie said that not more than six temrstones would require' to be ..roniovod. - ■■, ' : ' Tlie chairman said that for the past 25 years to his knowledge not a. weed had been pulled or a flower planted in the Collingwood street cemetery, yet when the committee proposed to deal with tile reserve in a reasonable manner there was a a outcry n'bout desecration. ! It was resolved that the chairman reply to Mr Foy's Letter. GENERAL. The tender of Messrs Cass and. Sharp, for the supply of coke at Is -Id per bag wa.s accepted. There were no tenders for the supply of coa)<>, ami it was decided to make the .same arrangements 'is last year. Accounts*amounting to £8 2s 6d were passed for payment.
