SCHOOL REPORTS.
THE SCARLET FEVIOR EPIDEMIC.
Mr F. G. Gibbs, headmaster of the Boys' Central School, reported that the total number'on'the roll was 567, •with& air average attendance of 485.5, being 84.1 per cent. The report stated that the attendance was lower than usual owing to many of the children suffering from minor ailments. The desks and forms at the Tasman Street. School had beon thorottghly disinfected. The Chairman stated that the Healths Officer had also sprayed the school with disinfectant. The desks and forms at Hampden street were being troatad in tlie same way. He mentioned that the boys had helped to carry out the desks-, from the school.
Mr Stringer said it seemed to him that to get the boys to carry out tho forms was another way of spreading the dUoaso.
Tho chairman said tha.t that aspect had been discussed.
It was decided to reopen the schools on Mbiidav, May 15th. Mr F. ST. Knapp, headmaster of the Girls' Central School, reported tthat tho total nnn.ber on the roll was 63-1, with an average attendance of 529.5, being 83.2 per cont. Owing to the prevalence of sickness there was a considerable falling in attendance at .Hampden Street and Haven Road Schools. The attendance at the Girls' Central was well maintained.
The question of asphalting tho quadrangle at the Gii'Ls' Central School was referred to Messrs Easdale, Stringer, and McConchie, with power to act.
