FINANCE COMMITTEE

The Finance Committee reported: On letter from Messrs Dodson and Son. as to. water account: That the Town ■Clerk.reports..that the correct amount of the; rebate "is £30 8s 9d, and the Committee recommends that ' this amount be refunded. That in future the allowance be made at the fame time as the rates are being paid and that a list be kept by the counter clerk for this purpose. As to war allowances • lhat the wife of an employee who hac enlisted be allowed 10s per week in view of the fact that her husband is receiving officers' pay. That Mr. Miller's account for locating a block in the sewer outside Kirby's, Waimea road, amounting to 6s 9d, be paid. As to bank overdraft: That the Committee has looked carefully into the matter and find: That partly owing to the ract that the overdraft generaHv increases at this time of the year, and partly to the rates uneollected be'.ioin excess of the amount usually unpaid at this period, the overdraft on* Genera] Account has increased since March SUt last l)v about £,2250, but that it is enec eu timt by March 31st next it will be decreased to about the same amount as it stood at on March 31, ]915. That the Council appears to be keeping approximately within its estimates no! withstanding increases in wa"-es and cost of material of all kinds owing to the war. That owing to the erection of the new gasholder and th o expenditure thereon the credit on Gasworks Account in January 1915, of £2835 13s Hd has been converted into a debit in December of £1700 10s 6d-total, £4&6 Is 5d with the result that the overdraft geneamount " increased V .that The report was adopted.
