A public meeting, of citizens was hold at the City Couacil Chambers last eroning to making arrangements to provide Nelson's quota of articles for the second ftfew Zealand hospital ship. Ho Mayor '(Mr. C. J. Harley) presided, ana there was a large Attendance, principally ladies. A number of: apologies 'for absence were received. The Mayor, in explaining the object of the meeting, said that the hospital ship Maheno had been found most useful, and his Excellency the Governor was now making an appeal to the people of New Zealand to equip a second hospital ship. What Nelson was xcto contribute was: —

50 sheets (2yd& x 3yds) 50 draw sheets. 100 bath towels. 100 face towels. 50 flannel pyjamas. 50 flannel bed jackete.. "20 pairs felt slippers, 100 face wash cloths. 25 pairs bed socks. 25 flannel drawers.

It was mentioned that £200 would Lo required, and Mr. Barley said he anticipated there would fee no difficulty in raising that sum in Nelson, and.district Mr. Harley said that Mrs. Bett had .very kindly offered to provide 50 bath and 50 face towels. (Applause.) Mr. IWhiteford, of Waimea road, had also handed him 10a towards the fund.

Miss Andereon offered, to get up an entertainment to raise money to purchase material. The offer wss accepted $rith thanks.

On the motion of Mrs. Crawford, secended by Miss Tomlinsori, it was resolved to niake a Saturday street collection in aid of-the fund. It was resolved, on Dr. Washbourn'a motion, that all present- act as a general committee.

On the motion of Mrs. Hamilton, teeconded by Miss Farnie, it was resolved that Misses Hurst* Atkinson, England and Tomlinson, Mesdames F. 0. Hamilton, Washbourn, Crawford, C. J. iHarley, Jnniieson, S. A*. Lucas, and iLock, Mesßrs.-W. W. Shodgrass, J. P. Hayes and Drs. Wash-bourn and Barr form the Executive Oommifcfee. A buying committee was* set up, ?onfeisting of Matron Hurst*. Nurse England and Mre. (Dr.) Waahbouns. Judging "by the offers of goods which liave already been received, the labours -of the buying committee- will be very light. Mr. Trathen at first declined nomva■iation, but on its being pointed out that it was desirable to have a person with -expert knowledge on the committee, he accepted the position. Misses K. Wastney and Grace Cock appointed joint secretaries. i Mr. Trathen offered parcel of 'material, and the offer was srith thanks.

The Mayor said he had made arrangements for the clerk At- the Tourist Office, City Council Chambers, to receive articles. He offered the use of the Mayor's room for committee meetings. '
