AN ENTHUSIASTIC MEETING.

A crowded meeting was held in tlie C% Council Chambers last night to consider the formation of a branch of tho Women's National Reserve. The proceedings, which were enthusiastic in every way, were presided over by .Mrs W. Lock.

Mir Sadlier spoke of the extent to which women in tho Old Country are doing work that was previously done by men, thus assisting to release men for, the war.

The method of organising the Women's Reserve was explained by Mrs Porter. An address on the objects of the. movement was given by Mrs Lock, who road a report of Mr Lloyd George's reply to a large boby of women wlio waited upon him in London and offered tlieir services in meeting the national crisis* It 'was decided to form a Nelsonbranch of the Women's National Reserve, and the following officers were elected: —Honorary-president, Mrs badlier- president, Mrs Lock; secretary, Miss Mellett; executive. Mesdames C. J Harlev, Sidford, Buchanan, C. Graham, and Richmond Fell, and Miss Richmond. Aa errolling committee was arranged for, with Mrs. (Dr.), Lucas at its head. It was divided into sections, as follows: The Wood: Mrs. Cresswell, Misses Coster, Capper and Anderson. Brook street: Mesdames Fred. Hamilton and Brundell. Hampden street: Mrs. R. Allan, Misses Sclanders, Cock, Widdowson, and Maginnity. Waimea road: Misses Blackett and Wilton. , Vanguard street: Miss Fk>. Richmond. Washington Valley: Mrs. Philip Moore and Miss Grace. City: Mesdames Hedges, Washbourn, Vining and Eastcott, Misses Wastney and Baunvber. Tory street, Cleveland road, and Maitai: Mrs. C. Hamilton. About 70 active and honorary members were enrolled in the room.

It is intended to hold meetings in different parts of the city in order to arouse further interest in the movement, and make its purposes better known, and these meetings will be supplemented by a house-to-house canvass fcr additional members. Requests have already been received from Stoke, Richmond^ Hope and other districts that steps may be taken to form branches of the Women's Reserve there, and these requests will be complied with as soon as possible. Mrs. Porter was warmly thanked for her attendance, and a vote of thanks was also accorded to the chairwoman.
